The Happy Farmer

Janey had her spring violin recital this week, where she played "The Happy Farmer." Mom did NOT accompany her this time, but paid a professional accompanist. Best $20 I ever spent! Janey did a great job and it's fun to hear her talents grow.

Piano Recital

Janey had her first Piano recital this week. She only started playing 3 months ago, taking over Steve L.'s spot when he got to busy with Shakespeare. She's really enjoyed playing and picked it up quickly with her violin background. When she returned to the audience after playing her 2 pieces very well, she said in a surprised voice, "I didn't make any mistakes!"

Minuet #1

Thursday night was Janey's end of the year violin recital. She did a beautiful job playing Minuet #1 by Bach. I attempted to accompany her on the piano, which was not quite so beautiful. I did enjoy the opportunity to practice with her. I'm going to have to do a lot more practicing if I'm going to keep up with this musician! Well done Janey!

Take 6 by Whitney

This last week we got to go see "Take 6" perform at the University of Utah. It was amazing! I wasn't sure what to expect because my dad had just told me about them earlier that day when he dropped me off for school. Turns out that they are and African American singing group that specializes in accapella. I had never heard of them before but they were excellent singers. They had a base a tenor, two high tenors, a beat box type and an alto. They sang about a dozen different songs ranging from pop to gospel. It was an excellent experience to be able to hear that type of southern culture that I'm rarely exposed to here in the west. I personally can't wait to hear them again via itunes!

Two Favorites

Janey played in her first violin recital this week. She has been playing violin for about 4 months now and really loves it. She performed the "Poka Dot Waltz" for her recital piece.

Janey's second favorite thing, besides playing the violin, is ice skating. She's only been once before, years ago, but she was sure she would love it. She has been begging for months to go, and was so thrilled when we went as a Girl Scout Troop this week. She was a natural on the ice, declaring it was just like roller blading, another favorite activity of Janey's.

They've Got Talent

This week was our ward's annual Primary Talent show. Ellie danced a couple numbers with her friends, Daniel showed off some Karate moves and Janey, who's never had a formal piano lesson, played "I am a Child of God." It's fun to watch them do what they love!

First Recital

This week I had my first piano recital and played two short pieces in front of the crowd. It was cool to be up there performing in front of everybody. I was glad my Grandparents could be there. I'm glad I get to play the piano.

Steve's adoring fans.
