Bear Lake Family Reunion

One of our favorite things about summer is our Bear Lake family Reunion! Steve's parents and siblings all gather the first week of August during Raspberry Days and play together. We have a couple of beach days where everyone gets fried in the sun and we rent ski-dos and play in the sand. In the evening Grandma brings out the jiffy pop and the glow sticks!

Kids with the flash off - straight out of the Tron movie!

Then we go on a light parade through the campground!

Some of us decided to run the Raspberry Days 5K that Saturday morning. It was Janey's first 5k and she did great! The best part was the Bear Lake Raspberry Ice Cream that they served us at the end of the race. This is going to become a tradition!

At the end of our trip we decided to check out the Paris Ice Caves that the scouts had explored a couple weeks before. Very cool!

Days of 47 10K

My dad always taught me to "sprint home" when finishing a run. Here I am "sprinting home" at the end of the July 24th Days of '47 10K! The last 2 miles are through the parade route which is a lot of fun. Steve (dad) and Janey came to cheer me on at the finish. Unfortunately Steve didn't feel that his knee was up for the race, but he was mad that he didn't just go for it. No worries, we'll get you there!

Race for the Cure

May 12th Steve and I rode trax downtown and joined thousands of others in SLC, for "The Race for the Cure." A 5k that raises money for breast cancer research and awareness. It had been years since I'd run this race and it is definitely more of an event for a cause than an athletic competition, but fun to be involved. We beat our Stake 5k time by over a minute!

Relief Society 5K

This Saturday I ran in our Relief Society 5k. Dad and Janey came to cheer me on and hand me water at the finish line. I improved my time from last week by over a minute, but I have much more fun running with Steve than by myself. Too bad it was girls only!

First 5K

Steve and I ran in our Stake's 5K April 28th. We have been training since February at the indoor track at the Olympic Skating Oval. This was our first 5K of the season and Steve's first race ever! We are having so much fun being running partners and crossed the finish line together.

First 5k of the Season

Saturday was our 2nd Annual Relief Society 5k. It was a gorgeous day and a nice run. I took 1st place in my age division, but felt far behind the runners both younger and older than me. I improved over my time last year by 3 minutes, and hope to shave off a few more by next year. Steve and I have been training together and I look forward to doing my next race with him. He just didn't pass for a sister for this one!

First 5K of the Season!

It's been about 7 years since I ran any races, so I wasn't sure I could pull off our Relief Society 5K. With just a few training runs, I was able to run the whole way, my first goal, and beat my best training time, my second goal. I'm so greatful that all my previous years of running are paying off. Steve says he'll run the next race with me. We'll see if he can keep up!
